Privacy Policy

Last updated: 15 October 2026

Tiles Spotter is a free, independent browser-based geography game at www.tilespotter.com. You can play without an account. This policy describes the information used by the game and its service providers.

Who is responsible

Tiles Spotter is run by an individual, acting as the data controller, as an independent non-commercial project. There is no company behind it and nothing in the game is sold. The controller's name and postal address are provided on request to anyone exercising the rights described below, and to any supervisory authority that asks; write to tilesspotter@proton.me, which reaches the controller directly.

Information used by Tiles Spotter

Guest play: Game progress, XP, achievements, settings and discovery map data are saved in the browser's local storage. Clearing the site's browser data may erase unsynchronized progress.

Google sign-in: If a player chooses to sign in, Google and Supabase handle authentication. Basic account details, such as an account identifier, email address and optional display name, may be received. Tiles Spotter does not receive Google passwords or access Gmail, contacts or Drive files.

Cloud save: Supabase stores signed-in players' account identifier, nickname, XP and level, together with a snapshot of the whole gameplay state kept in the browser: achievements, pins, streak, per-mode statistics, quests, daily results, the map of squares already played on, and the per-difficulty decks that record which tiles you have already seen. The game uses this to carry progress between devices. Guest play does not require a Google account and stores none of it on the server.

Multiplayer: Supabase Realtime transmits room information and gameplay messages needed to play with others. Other participants may see nicknames and game actions.

Services involved

Providers may receive technical request data such as IP addresses, device or browser information, and request timestamps. Their own privacy notices explain their processing and retention practices. Data may be processed outside the player's country subject to applicable legal requirements.

Why information is processed

Where the GDPR applies, the legal bases are: running your account and carrying progress between devices, and relaying your nickname and guesses to the opponent in a multiplayer room you joined — performance of a contract, Article 6(1)(b); keeping the service available and dealing with abuse — legitimate interests, Article 6(1)(f); storing progress and settings in your own browser — strictly necessary for a service you asked for. The game sets no cookies of its own and shows no consent banner, because the only storage it uses on your device is the storage it needs in order to work. Any future processing that requires consent will have its own separate choice.

Tiles Spotter does not currently use advertising or behavioral analytics and does not sell personal information. If advertising or similar tracking is introduced, this policy and the relevant consent controls will be updated first.

Account deletion and retention

Account deletion is available in Profile → the gear icon → Account & cloud save. Deleting an account removes its Supabase Auth identity and the associated cloud profile, including the linked import backup. Deletion is immediate and cannot be undone.

How long things are kept:

Privacy rights

Depending on applicable law, players may request access, correction, deletion, portability, or restriction of their personal data, and may object to certain processing or complain to a competent data protection authority. Two of these work without writing to anyone: Settings → Export progress gives you your whole profile as a portable code, and the account panel deletes it. For anything else, write to the contact below; requests are answered within one month.

Children

Tiles Spotter is not intended for children under 13. Contact the address below about any account or personal data concern involving a child.

Contact

For privacy questions, account deletion requests, other data inquiries or security reports, contact tilesspotter@proton.me. Replies normally arrive within a few days.
